A Holistic approach

ISEE is different from other programs in that we offer a mind-body-spirit approach that integrates all of the parts of a person not only in the content of what you learn, but also in the process of your learning.

  • MIND: ISEE offers the very best instructors in the field of sexuality today. Faculty are professionals with years of experience teaching as well as practicing their craft. They are known for their open minds, our faculty is constantly learning.
  • BODY: Sexuality is all about the body, and we teach sex-positivity as well as using an embodied approach to your learning. Whether you are at an in-person class, a streaming class online, or taking a recorded webinar, you’ll be encouraged to participate in movement, crafts, music, breathwork, and check-ins to make sure that you are integrating your learning and while being grounded in self-care. In this process, you’ll learn how to bring these approaches to clients or students.
  • HEART: At ISEE, we encourage self-reflection and self-inquiry, to be deeply in touch with your emotional responses to the material as well as having the most pleasure you can in a professional learning environment.
  • SPIRIT: Your values, dreams, visions for the future and beliefs are all respected here. ISEE has had students who are atheist, pagan, spiritual, Orthodox/observant Jewish, Baptist, 12-Step members, Muslim and LDS, to name a few. You are encouraged to explore your learning from your own value system, and to practice your own ways of knowing through lived experience.

Justice and Commitment to Anti-Oppression

The Institute for Sexuality Education and Enlightenment is committed to the continuous movement of a sustainable system of justice.  Some of the ways we practice this are:

  • In recognition of the importance of representation for leaders in the fields of sexual health, sexual wellness, sexual freedom, and sexual and reproductive justice, ISEE offers scholarships to persons in particular need.
  • Centering previously unheard voices in the field through hiring and contracting of faculty,  staff, moderators and teaching assistants.
  • Incorporation of  anti-oppression and representation into all of our classes as content as well as community processes.
  • Improving accessibility for people with disabilities.
  • Giving. ISEE has donated to the  Native American Advancement Foundation, Native-land.ca, Black Lives Matter, American Civil Liberties Union, Sex Down South, NARAL, Human Rights Campaign, AASECT Creating Communities Scholarship, Center for Sex Education Pay It Forward Scholarship, the Sexology Archive, Sex Information & Education Council of the United States, and others.

ISEE is an approved organizational provider of continuing education for the American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). Most ISEE classes offer AASECT CE’s that can be used for initial certification or for recertification. ISEE full certificate programs (HSET and the Holistic Sex Therapy Training Program) offer all CE’s necessary for AASECT Certification. Receiving CEs does not guarantee AASECT certification.
